One function is to prevent anti-virus virus infects a computer.Although today many who have a proactive anti-virus detection (ability to detect new viruses before they hit the virus database) is good, but if the computer is already infected with the virus, usually installed antivirus software can not do much.

Why like that? Yes, if the computer has been infected with the virus, usually the first thing the virus is to disable existing antivirus, if not successful then the virus will prevent the antivirus to remove him.So what if this happens?

There are several ways if the computer is already infected with the virus, and viruses that are already installed are not able to handle it.

1. Install or use other antivirus

If you still can install another Antivirus, you should at try. Use the latest antivirus program, immediately scan when done install or would be better if the update first. Probably for most antivirus this is not successful, because the virus usually have anticipated this.

Alternatively, use a new antivirus. For example RISING Antivirus 2008 Free Edition, which recently was released. Antivirus is pretty good, before I ever install a computer with Avira friend who turned out to have been hit by a virus, so the installation does not succeed. Then I tried this and antivirus can detect viruses that infect your computer.

2. Scan hard drives on other computers

If you have multiple computers or have a friend who has a computer with antivirus software is always updated, then try a scan on the computer. The best way is to remove the hard drive and installed in your friend's computer, and then a whole new scan.

This does require knowledge of tidal install disk (technically on the computer), so maybe if you have not ever going to have trouble. We recommend that you ask your friends who know better. In addition, this usually can not be done on laptops that are still warranty, because if you remove the hard drive, then usually damage the warranty label on the laptop. So maybe the third way.

3. Scan with antivirus on the Bootable CD

Bootable CD is meant here is a CD containing the operating system (either simple or complex) that can run without requiring a computer hard drive. That way, all programs on the hard disk, including guaranteed virus could not walk, but can be accessed via a bootable CD.

There are several Free Bootable CD which has included the antivirus and can be used, among others:

Ultimatebootcd (UBCD), Bootable CD is DOS based, so maybe for those not familiar will be difficult. Also included is only Antivirus F-Prot Antivirus for DOS (Virus definition: 4 May 2007), McAfee Antivirus Scanner 4.40.0 (Virus definition: 3 May 2007) and BugHunter. So it seems insufficient because it does not update anymore. Download and more at http://www.ultimatebootcd.com

UBCD4Win (Ultimate Boot CD for Windows). This is a development of the UBCD, and is based on Windows XP so it allows users. But to create a Bootable CD Windows XP Installation CD is required. The size is large enough, which is about 230 MB.More information can be read articles about UBCD for Windows here. To download can be found at http://www.ubcd4win.com.

AntiVir Rescue System, a bootable CD is based on Linux.Compared to the previous CD Bootable, AntiVir Rescue System is a Bootable CD that specifically deal with the virus, except that this application is always updated, maybe even every day there are always additional new virus, so it is very useful. Download in http://www.avira.com/en/support/support_downloads.html

If only used to handle the virus, the AntiVir Rescue System is superior. In addition to the amount of only about 55 MB (UBCD4Win about 230 MB) AntiVir Rescue System constantly updated, so better able to detect new viruses. But if you need another application, to repair, recovery, hardware and other checks, then UBCD4Win clearly superior.

But unfortunately for the AntiVir Rescue System, when I tried version July 11, 2008 yesterday can not be used, and it says that this version of DEMO. After suey-looking information in the forum, it looks like there was something wrong with the file (ISO). And it seems the new improvements will be released in September 2008. To date I have not tried it again

4. Scan and remove virus manually

This can be done for the already quite familiar with the operating system, especially windows, various techniques of virus (spread, infecting etc.), various information about a file or directory and other computers. This method should be performed through a bootable CD (you can use a bootable CD from a way to 3 above or with a Linux Live CD like Ubuntu, Knoppix and others.

5. Reinstall

This may be the last alternative if the above methods can not or want a quick way. But with the completion of the reinstall does not guarantee a virus free computer again, the virus could infect other programs that are installed later. In addition, if we have installed a computer program that quite a lot, then maybe re-install takes a long and tiring.

This method may also not be done if the computer / laptop already installed the operating system since we bought (OEM software), because it is usually not included installation CD. Obviously if you want to re-install, make sure the CD Driver computer / laptop is already available. In addition, you should first know what a virus that infects your computer before reinstalling.
